What is Stainless Steel 321 Pipe?

Stainless steel 321 pipe is a titanium-stabilized austenitic stainless steel with great corrosion resistance, particularly against intergranular corrosion at high temperatures (427°C - 816°C). Common problems in unstabilized grades like 304, chromium carbide precipitation is avoided by this stabilization.

Main characteristics of 321 stainless steel include:

Excellent resistance against both general and intergranular corrosion.

Excellent creep and stress rupture strength together with oxidation resistance up to 816°C.

Good toughness at low temperatures; minimum yield strength of 205 MPa; minimum tensile strength of 515 MPa; density of 8027 kg/m³.

Melting point between 1398-1446°C and hardness of 217 Brinell yields durability.

Formability:Elongation of 40%.

There are both seamless and welded pipe and tube versions of 321 stainless steel. While welded pipes give great creep resistance and help to address post-welding issues, seamless tubing provides outstanding strength and durability. Demanding uses include boilers, jet engine components, and exhaust systems—including 321 exhaust tubing.

Stainless Steel 321H Seamless Pipes

Stainless Steel 321H pipe is a stabilized austenitic stainless steel designed for high-temperature use (427-816°C / 800-1500°F). It has higher carbon content. It resists carbide precipitation, remains non-magnetic in the annealed condition, and can be hardened by cold working.

Types of Stainless Steel 321 Pipes

Solitaire Overseas has a wide range of Stainless Steel 321 Pipes for specific industrial use. Our SS 321 pipes are recognized for their excellent heat resistance, superior strength, and high performance in extreme environments. Below is a list of types of SS 321 Pipes we offer:

Stainless Steel 321 Seamless Pipe

Built from one piece of steel, the SS 321 Seamless Pipe lacks joints or welds. A pipe produced by this manufacturing process has exceptional resistance to pressure and corrosion, strength, and longevity. Perfect for use in boilers, jet engines, exhaust systems, and more. These pipes ideal for high-temperature applications—perform remarkably well between 800°C and 1500°C. Though the production method results in somewhat more cost, seamless pipes offer exceptional dependability and long service life. At Solitaire Overseas, we guarantee that our flawless pipes are created with the most modern technologies for maximum quality standards.

Stainless Steel 321 Welded Pipe

Our Stainless Steel 321 Welded Pipes are known for their excellent resistance to post-weld carburization, pitting, and corrosion. Made by connecting steel strips with electric resistance welding (ERW), these pipes retain remarkable mechanical strength and creep resistance. For many different industrial uses where structural integrity and corrosion resistance are absolutely vital, these welded pipes are perfect. Non-magnetic and retaining strength even at cryogenic temperatures, the 321 UNS S32100 ERW Pipe is Among the few Indian providers able to provide tailored solutions for welded pipes depending on your particular needs.

321 Round Pipe

The ASTM A312 TP 321 Round Pipe is the most commonly used pipe shape due to its versatility and efficient fluid and gas transport properties. Round pipes are utilized extensively in sectors like petrochemicals, power generation, and aerospace both in seamless and welded forms. Their round cross-section guarantees a consistent pressure distribution, so they are perfect for both low- and high-pressure uses. These pipes are available at Solitaire Overseas in polished, annealed, and bespoke surface treatments among other schedules and finishes.

FAQ

The key difference between SS 321 and 321H is carbon content: SS 321 has a maximum of 0.08% carbon, while 321H ranges from 0.04% to 0.10%. Both have similar compositions.

321 stainless steel is a heat-resistant grade known for its good corrosion resistance and strength at high temperatures. This austenitic alloy maintains toughness and overall strength even at cryogenic temperatures, making it suitable for a range of high-temperature applications.

321 stainless steel, a titanium-stabilized austenitic grade, offers similar corrosion resistance to 304/304L.

The best choice between 321 and 316 stainless steel depends on your needs. For high-temperature strength and weld stability, 321 is the better option. If corrosion resistance in harsh environments like chemical processing or marine settings is paramount, 316 steel is the preferred choice.
