FAQ
Stainless Steel 304 pipe weight is calculated using the basic formula for pipe weight. This formula is P= t (D-t) X C. Here t is the thickness of the pipe. It can be expressed either in mm or inches. The value D is the external diameter of the pipe, which is measured in inches. The value C is simply the specific weight of the material; for stainless steel 304, that's 0.287 lbs/in3.
304L has 0.03% carbon for improved weldability, while 304H contains 0.04-0.1% carbon for higher strength at elevated temperatures, resisting oxidation up to 925°C.
The key difference between 304 and 304L stainless steel pipe is carbon content. 304L has a maximum of 0.03% carbon, making it more suitable for welding, while 304 has a higher carbon level, offering slightly better strength but less resistance to sensitization during welding.
304H pipe is a high-carbon version of 304 stainless steel, designed for applications requiring higher strength at elevated temperatures. Its increased carbon content provides enhanced strength, especially in high-temperature environments.
S304 stainless steel is considered good quality due to its excellent corrosion resistance, formability, strength, and ease of maintenance. It is widely used and is the most ordered stainless steel grade globally. While 316 stainless steel offers better resistance to chlorides and acids, 304 is suitable for a broad range of applications, making it a popular choice.
Stainless steel 304L is a low-carbon, austenitic grade, enhancing weldability and deep drawing capabilities, making it ideal for heavy gauge components like sinks and saucepans.
