What Is Monel K500 Pipes (UNS N05500)?
Monel K500 (UNS N05500) is a precipitation-hardenable nickel-copper alloy that is uniquely non-magnetic and spark-resistant. The addition of aluminum (2.3–3.15%) and titanium (0.35–0.85%) to the base Monel 400 composition enables age hardening, making it ideal for submarine components, marine shafts, pump shafts, valve trim, cable wraps, and sensitive instrumentation. The age-hardening process results in significantly higher mechanical strength, approximately three times the yield strength of Monel 400. Consequently, Monel K500 Seamless Pipes are widely used in high-stress applications such as heat exchangers, downhole tubing, and hydraulic systems. The alloy composition typically includes 63% Nickel and 27–33% Copper, allowing Monel K500 pipes to achieve a minimum yield strength of 790 MPa and a tensile strength of 1100 MPa. With a melting point of approximately 1350°C, these pipes perform reliably under extreme thermal and corrosive environments.
